USG SENATE MEETING

28th LEGISLATURE

MARCH 15, 2005

 

I.      Call to Order

II.     Corrections to the Minutes

A.      Approval of Minutes

B.      Approval of Agenda
- President Espinosa deletes College Senators.
- Treasurer Myers adds Senator of the Month.
- Senator Pro Tem Levin-Stankevich adds Liaisons Reports.     

President Espinosa makes a motion to suspend the rules to have Rules Chair Crowley give her report first. Senator Nathaniel 2nd.  Vote is taken and passes 20 yeas, 2 nays and 1 abstention.

 

III.    Rules Chair Crowley Report:

A.      The Rules Committee would like to recognize HIPERC (Hi Performance Computing Organization) as a USG organization.  I would like to recognize a representative from HIPERC to answer any questions you may have.  Floor is open for questions. Rules Committee would like to make a motion to recognize HIPERC as a USG organization.  Vote is taken and passes unanimously.

President Espinosa states that the rules will continue starting with his report.

 

IV.     President Espinosa Report:

A.      NFTA Q & A - I would like to open the floor for the senators to ask NFTA any questions or concerns they may have. Discussion is wrapped up.  If you have any more concerns please go to the NFTA website.  I will table "B" for next week because we do not have enough time to go into it.

 

V.      EVP Sylvester Report:

A.  Camp Weekend was a lot of fun.

B.  USG Referendum is coming up during our election.  We need to get the word out that we need to vote for the activity fee.

C.  Senator mailboxes need to be cleaned out.  You should check your mailbox at least once a week.

 

VI.     Treasurer Myers Report:

A.      Vice Treasurer Smith is recognized to give certificates to the previous Senator's of the month.  Senator Urrutia, Senator Forsythe and Senator Turton will receive a certificate for the Galleria Mall.

B.      USG Survey - I have put a pamphlet in everyone's mailbox regarding the survey on the USG web page.

C.      Game Room - the basketball game is all set up. 

D.      Budget - the Budget Committee has started their budget process.  We have completed the Academic Clubs next we will be working on Sports & Rec.

 

VII.    Standing Committee Reports

A.      AVP Blake Academic Report:
- I would like to meet with my committee after the meeting.
- Senator Southee is recognized to give a Academic Committee Report.  Senator Southee states that the Professor Evaluations will be out at the end of April.

B.      AVP Lafontaine Community Relations Report:
- The times for Union Bash Bingo have changed.  Bingo will start at 4:30 pm - 7:00 pm and the second shift will start at 7:30 pm - 10:00 pm.
- Bowling for USG Senators will be after the meeting next week.

C.      AVP Buckley Sports & Rec Report:
- Texas Hold'Em tournament is this Friday at Union Bash.  Flyers have been put in the organization mailboxes.

D.      AVP Pastwik Student Life Report: excused absence - President Espinosa will give her report
- She would like to meet with her committee on Thursday at 1:00 pm.  Please call her if you are unable to attend.
- On Thursday April 7th in the Cookery there will be a music slam.
- In mid April she will be doing a conscious coffee house.
- In late April early May she will be asking USG organizations to get involve with some out door games.  This event is in the planning process.

E.      Senator Pro Tem Levin-Stankevich Report:
- I would like to remind everyone that liaison reports are due next Tuesday.

X.      Constituents Questions/Announcements

A.  EVP Sylvester states that every committee is responsible for tabling. Please make sure if it's your turn to table that someone is down there.  If your committee can not table please let me know.

B. Senator St. Rose announces ISO International Fiesta is this Saturday at 6:00 pm. Tickets are available in Rockwell Hall for $3.00.

C. Senator Master gives his resignation due to student teaching and coaching.

D. President Espinosa states that there are still tickets available for Heidi Chronicles.

E.  EVP Sylvester states if you did not get a USG t-shirt please see me.

F. Hector Gil wishes everyone who is running for USG elections good luck.

G. Josh from NYPIRG gives a report.  Josh states that over 300 students from NYS came out for Higher Education Lobby Day. I just want to let you know  that NYS Assembly passed the student budget although the Senate has not.
