SENATE MINUTES

29th LEGISLATURE

OCTOBER 18, 2005

 

I.      Call to Order

- EVP Norman adds Attendance.
- AVP Clarke adds Student Life Tabling.

 

III.    President Levin-Stankevich Report:

A.      NFTA Committee - last year when NFTA passed there was suppose to be a committee put together to review problems and concerns.  This committee was never put together so I am trying to get one together this year. If you are interested on being on the committee please let me know.

B.      Judicial Council has met with Intervarsity Christian Fellowship and Men's Lacrosse in regards to missing the mandatory organization meeting.  They recommend that both organizations should have a 2% reduction from their budget. They also met with WBNY and Women's Rugby and unfroze their budget.  The Judicial would like to make a motion to approve the 2% reduction for Intervarsity and Men's Lacrosse.  Senator Pro Tem Groover 2nd. Floor is open for discussion.  Vote is taken and passes 23 yeas, 0 nays and 0 abstentions.

C.      Student Union update - I met with FSA this morning and the overall proposal was changed to $175,000 and we are trying to work with this. The Alumni Association is in full support of the Student Union Initiative.  Ken Quinniey is going to bring this in front of their next Board of Directors meeting. At this meeting they will vote on basically giving us their full support for the Student Union Initiative. If this gets approved the focus for them will be to raise enough money to take care of 8 conference rooms.  The college already has some money allocated toward the Student Union.  We are in their fiscal budget period in the next 3 years out of a 5 year plan.

 

IV.     EVP Norman Report:

A.      Homecoming BBQ is this Thursday. Please verify when you will be able to help out.

B.      T-shirts will be handed out that say the 29th Legislature.  They should be worn on Thursday.

C.      Tickets - I have complimentary tickets for Senators that would like to attend Carlos Mencia.  Please only take a ticket if you can definitely go. Damien Marley tickets are $15 and this is the following evening at the Town Ball Room.  The only way to get these tickets is if you get the Carlos Mencia ticket.  This is a combo ticket for $15 and $30 at the door. There are only 200 tickets.

D.      Attendance - we take attendance every week at the Senate meetings and at the Committee meetings. Attendance at Committee meetings has not been good. I will go over the policy just to give everyone a friendly reminder.

E.      Laura Gerwitz has resigned.

 

V.      Treasurer Myers Report: given by Vice Treasurer Palka

A.  Club Reductions - the Budget Committee met last week to review the reductions for the following organizations: The Record, Astronomy Club,Women's Rugby and WBNY.  The report with the particular line that the  reduction will be taken out of will be released after it is voted on at tomorrow's Budget meeting.

 

VI.     Standing Committee Reports

A.  AVP Blake Academic Report:
- Camp Weekend - everything went well.
- Manners Matter is Friday November 4th at 4:00 pm. I have put a flyer in every ones mailbox.  The tickets are $10 which will be taken out of my budget.  I will pass around a sign up sheet if you plan on attending.  Please only sign up if you definitely plan on going.

B.      AVP LaFontaine Community Relations Report:
- Homecoming Float - we are going to try to work on the float on Friday. If you signed up to work on the float please see me after the meeting.
- Union Bash - next Tuesday during Bengal Pause Lynn and I would like to meet with everyone.  I am looking for someone to go shopping with me for prizes for Union Bash.

C.      AVP Buckley Sports & Recreation Report:
-  Homecoming volunteers - I need volunteers for the day of Homecoming. There is a raffle, give aways, setting up and breaking down.  Please sign the sheet I am passing around if you can help.
- I would like to meet with my committee after the meeting.

D.      AVP Clarke Student Life Report:
-  Student Life is in charge of the USG table tomorrow.
-  Committee meeting Wednesday at 7:00 pm.

E.      Rules Chair Crowley Report:
-  Questions & Comments

F.      Senator Pro Tem Groover Report:
-  Liaison Reports - I recently put a memo in everyone's box about missing reports.
-  Game Room - we meet every Tuesday at 6:45 pm in the USG Conference Room. Next week we will meet at 6:30 pm.
-  Food Service Committee meeting is tomorrow at 6:45 pm in room 404.

 

VII.    New Business

A.  AVP Clarke states that next Thursday during Bengal Pause in the Bengal room there is a meeting with Tom Koller to talk about events.

 

VIII.   Old Business

A. All the students that were at the Holiday Inn have been moved in to dorms.

 

IX.     Constituents Questions/Announcements

A.      AVP Blake cancels her committee meeting on Thursday.  I would like to meet with the Student Advisory Committee.

B.      Vice Treasurer Palka states that the Budget Committee start at 11:00 am sharp.
