SENATE MEETING MINUTES

30th LEGISLATURE

NOVEMBER 7, 2006

 

I.      Call to Order

        Roll Call

II.     Corrections to the Minutes

A.      Approval of Minutes
- AVP Ammirato would like to make an addition to last week's minutes. I would like it noted for the record that Senator Ray announced that it was mandatory for the Community Relations Committee to attend the AIDS Forum on November 3rd.  There have been some questions regarding this.

B.      Approval of Agenda
- EVP Brady adds NYPIRG and Justice.

 

III.    President Levin-Stankevich Report:

A.      Cassety Hall update.  Last Friday we met with our organizations and we had a good turnout.  At this meeting I proposed the three options that we discussed at the senate meeting a couple of weeks ago.  We voted and the outcome was for the reconstruction of the 4th floor in the Union.  On Monday I met with Steve Schafer the Facilities Planner and we are looking at April for the move to happen. 

 

IV.     EVP Brady Report:

A.      We are moving up Student at Large Bill Goodwin and Takeyla Dingle to Senators. President Levin-Stankevich will swear in Bill and Takeyla as Senators.

B.      I would like to recognize Ann from NYPIRG.  Ann states that she would like a contact list of all the Senators and E-Board.

C.      I would like to recognize acting Chief Justice Nick Jerge. Nick states that he would like to give an update on a couple of closed cases.  President Levin-Stankevich states that we will go into Executive Session because they have not been brought to the Senate and there might be some things that are confidential. Executive Session is over and the Senate meeting resumes.

D.      EVP Brady states the she will be interviewing for Student at Large positions.

 

V.      Treasurer St. Rose Report:

A.  Did everyone register for your classes? If you are having any problems let me know.

 

VI.     Standing Committee Reports

A.      AVP Janik Academic Report:
- Academic Advisor Committee met on Friday with Provost Ponton. At this meeting topics we discussed were smart classrooms, registration and academics.
- I would like to see my Ad Hoc and Academic Committee after the meeting.

B.      AVP Ammirato Community Relations Report:
- Aids Awareness - this program will take place the last week of November. I am working with different clubs on campus. We will be tabling every day so I am looking for help. Also, we will be painting red hands on the windows and walls of the Union. You will receive a free dinner if you volunteer during the dinner times.  If you are interested please sign the sheet I am passing around.
- Tonight we are going bowling at Volker's.
- If you have not received a t-shirt see me after the meeting.

C.      AVP Bush Sports & Rec Report:
- I would like to ask all the liaisons to ask their organizations how they would feel about getting together for a flag football game.

D.      AVP Dapaah Student Life Report:
-  Questions or Comments
-  I would like to meet with my Committee on Thursday.

E.      Rules Chair McKay Report:
- Last week you were given Student Bill #4 to review tonight we will vote on it. Student Bill #4 defines inactivity of organizations. I will read over Student Bill #4 before we vote on it.  Vote is taken and passes 17 yeas, 8 nays and 1 abstention.

F.      Senator Pro Tem Agard Report:
- On Thursday from 10:00 am - 3:00 pm the architects will be in the Fish Lounge in the Union.  They will have diagrams and will answer questions you may have regarding the renovation of the Union. The Food Service Committee should be there.

 

VII.    New Business

A.      President Levin-Stankevich states that he is trying to do a room inventory list for the offices that are at Cassety. A few of the organizations I need to see are NASO, Student Social Work, NSBE, CEC or Best Buddies, Asian and Criminal Justice.

 

VIII.   Constituents Questions/Announcements

A.      AVP Ammirato states that there will be a committee meeting during Bengal Pause on Thursday.

B.      AVP Dapaah announces that this weekend Spirit Gospel is having a concert in Rockwell Hall and it is free. AEL and AASO are going out to camp.

C.      Senator Stewart announces on November 30th  Weigel is having some activities in the Fireside Lounge.

D.      Senator Dobney announces that there is a meeting for the PR group on Tuesday at 1:05 pm in the conference room.  There will be a memo in your mail boxes.

E.      Senator Anderson asks about comp tickets for Anne Frank.  Also, the Tuesday before Thanksgiving is there a meeting? President Levin-Stankevich states there will be no meeting.

F.      Rules Chair McKay reminds his committee about the meeting on Wednesday at 4:30 pm.

G.      Treasurer St. Rose announces AASO Africa week starts next week.

H.      Ann from NYPIRG reminds everyone to vote.

I.      Mark Student Life announces on December 11th there will be a Pancake Breakfast from 10:00 pm - 1:00 am. There will also be a Karoake contest with gift certificates for the Walden Galleria and Pano's.
