SENATE MEETING MINUTES

31st LEGISLATURE

SPETEMBER 18, 2007

 

I.            Call to Order

            Roll Call

 

II.            Approval of Agenda

A.   EVP Brady adds Fall Fest.

B.    AVP Hirsch adds Academic Convocation.

 

III.            President St. Rose Report:

A.   Nominations - I would like to appoint Senator Perez for Senator Pro Tem and Senator Agee for Secretary.  Floor is open for questions.  Vote is taken to appoint Senator Perez for Senator Pro Tem and passes 19 yeas, 0 nays and 2 abstentions. Vote is taken to appoint Senator Agee for Secretary and passes 21 yeas, 0 nays and 0 abstentions. Senator Perez and Senator Agee are sworn in.

B.    UPD - Officer Mike had a call and had to leave therefore there will be no report.

C.    Student Assembly - we have 5 open spots which will be extended to the Senators.  Student Assembly is the weekend of October 26th - 28th in Binghamton.  If you are interested please come and see me or put your name on a sheet of paper.

 

IV.            EVP Brady Report:

A.   Swear In - I will move Student at Large Deleesa Carrasquillo to Senator. Floor is open for questions. Vote is taken to move Deleesa to Senator and passes 20 yeas, 0 nays and 0 abstentions. President St. Rose swears Deleesa in as Senator.  EVP Brady recognizes Officer Mike to give his report. Officer Mike states there have been some incidents on campus but other than that there is not much to report.

B.    Fall Fest is next Thursday and I am looking for some help.  Please see me after the meeting.

 

V.            Treasurer Gabriel Report:

A.   The Vice Treasurer position is open if you are interested please give a letter of intent to EVP Brady or Rules & Regulations Greco.

B.    I would like to see my committee after the meeting.

 

VI.            Standing Committees

A. AVP Hirsch Academic Report:
-  Academic Convocations is this Thursday. 
-  I would like to see my committee after the meeting.

B.  AVP Jueckstock Communication Report:
- Carnival of Clubs is this Thursday.  I would like to thank everyone who signed up to help. There are 25 organizations and 12 Greek organizations that signed up.
- Fall Fest - I am claiming tomorrow as Fall Fest promotion day because I am promoting for Fall Fest we really need to get the word out there.  If you would like to help out please see me.
- Committee Report - I met with my committee today and we had a very productive meeting.

C.    AVP Walters Community Affairs Report: Military Leave

D.  AVP Dapaah Student Life Report:
-  Homecoming is a week away. I will send around the sign up sheets because we have a lot of things to do.

E.  Rules & Regulations Greco Report:

VII.            New Business - None

 

VIII.            Old Business

A.   AVP Jueckstock is recognized.  AVP Jueckstock gives a brief report on what is going on for with the Violence against Women Ad Hoc Committee.

B.    EVP Brady states that some of the Senator’s have been moved to different committees. If you were on the Food Service Committee you were switched around because this is not a standing committee under us.  If you are interested and would like to be on the Food Service Committee you are more than welcome to. 

 

IX.            Constituents Questions/Announcements

A.   Senator Nunez asks if Thursday in the Quad is going to continue. AVP Jueckstock states that after this week it is done because of the weather.  Hopefully, in the spring we can bring it back.

B.    Senator Meads asks about more information for Student Assembly. President St. Rose states that transportation will be provided and we would probably leave around 12:00.  Once we find out who is going and what everyone’s schedule is these things will be figured out.

C.    Senator Pro Tem Perez informs the Senate of his phone number and e-mail in case anyone needs to get in contact with him.

D.   EVP Brady reminds everyone to check their mail box.

E.    AVP Jueckstock announces if you did not get a Senate folder please let me know.

F.    Rules Chair Greco states his e-mail has changed to USGruleschair@gmail.com.

G.   President St. Rose asks the Senate if they are comfortable having the Senate meetings in Bacon. Floor is open for discussion.  President St. Rose states that it was brought to his attention that the meetings can go back to the Assembly Hall.  Gail Wells is recognized.  Gail states that USG is welcomed in the Assembly Hall.  I looked at the scheduled and student organizations are using it on Thursday.  I do appreciate USG willing to give up the Assembly Hall and move their meetings to Bacon. Organizations that are using the Assembly Hall are done by 8:45. We do have two spaces in the Game Room that opened up.  We looked at the schedule and we did not know what the demand would be.
