VIII. New Business
A. EVP Brady recognizes Student At Large Yazicilar. Student at Large Nese makes a motion for Evergreen to be able to speak. James Manzione President of Evergreen is recognized to speak. James states that we do a lot to make a difference on campus. One of the reasons we couldn’t be a recognized organization was because we couldn’t have a graduate student as Treasurer. So we changed that and another reason was that we were too much like NYPIRG. But really we are not because NYPIRG is more a service on campus and everyone pays their $2 and that’s what funds NYPIRG. Other things we do are table weekly in the Union and everything Thursday we have weekly meetings. I am asking the Senator’s that want to see a difference to vote for us to be recognized. EVP Brady asks if there is any New Business. President St. Rose makes a motion to re-vote for the candidate for the College Senate for the nominees that have the most votes. EVP Brady states that is Old Business.
IX. Old Business
A. President St. Rose would like to motion to re-vote on the nominees for College Senate because we voted wrong. Treasurer Gabriel 2nd. EVP Brady states that we will vote on each individual separately and the person with the most votes will be nominated for College Senate. The nominees are: Senator Mead, Senator Nunez and Senator Hassan. EVP Brady asks if anyone else would like to be nominated. There are no more nominees. EVP Brady states that Rules & Regulations has a list of names that he will pass out and you will cast your vote on the paper. Votes are tallied and EVP Brady reads them off. Senator Hassan 4 votes, Senator Mead 5 votes and Senator Nunez 10 votes. Senator Nunez is officially on College Senate the next meeting is on Friday November 16th at 3:00 pm in Bulger. EVP Brady asks if there is any more Old Business and there is none.
X. Constituents Questions/Announcements
A. Senator Hassan states that PASO is having an event at Rockwell the same time as another organization. Rules & Regulations Greco states that the constitution states that 2 organizations can not have a big event on the same day. The person who handed in their paper work in first gets to have their event.
B. Senator Pro Tem Perez thanks who ever has been getting the word out about the Food Service Committee meeting. The meeting for this month is on November 14th at 4:00 pm in the Game Room.
C. Senator Hamilton motions to recognize Evergreen as a USG organization. EVP Brady states that the motion should have been under New Business but she will accept the motion. Treasurer Gabriel 2nd. EVP Brady states the floor is open for debate. Senator Mann asks what will USG recognition do for you? James Manizone (Evergreen representative) states that with recognition we are not just looking for funding we are looking for support. We are hoping to reach out to other organizations and help promote private issues and concerns. Treasurer Gabriel states that this organization wants to help clean up our community while other organizations use their funding for pizza. Treasurer Gabriel asks what events you would do with the funding. James states we would have a lot of environmental movies and bring some speakers in. Rules & Regulations Greco states that the reason my committee did not approve Evergreen was because they did not meet the list of what an organization needs to meet and ???? Senator Pro Tem Perez ask if they get approved do they get funding this year. Treasurer Gabriel states they will not get funding for this year but they can apply for funding for the academic year 2008-2009. There is Academic Assembly which they can apply for funds through and this gets approved by my Budget Committee. Treasurer Gabriel call to question. EVP Brady states we will vote on ending the discussion. Vote is taken and passes unanimously. EVP Brady states we will now vote to recognize Evergreen as a USG organization. Vote is taken and is a tie 8 yeas, 8 nays and 2 abstentions. President St. Rose breaks the tie with a yea to change the vote to 9 yeas, 8 nays and 2 abstentions. Evergreen is now a recognized USG organization.
D. President St. Rose states that applications are still being accepted for the AVP of Academics you have until Friday at 3:00. Also, if you are interested on being on the NFTA committee please let me know.
E. Ann from NYPIRG announces that Election Day is next Tuesday so remember to vote.
F. Peter Hirsch states the AVP of Academic position was his former position. If you have any questions regarding this please see me.
