BAGS Adjectives

BAGS: Beauty, Age, Goodness, and Size

There are ten adjectives that irregularly preceed rather than follow the noun; all of them are descriptions of either beauty, age, goodness, or size:
Beau/bel(le), bon(ne), grand(e), gros(se), jeune, joli(e), mauvais(e), nouveau/nouvel(le), petit(e), and vieux/vieil(le). (Under special circumstances: ancien(ne), autre, cher/chère, court, dernier/dernière, grand(e), longue, pauvre, prochain(e), propre, and vilain(e).)

Here are most of the BAGS adjectives assorted into a poem, try reciting it to yourself to remember them:

Petit grand gros,
Vilain joli beau,
Autre longue, mauvais bon,
Jeune vieux nouveau

Passé Composé with Être as the Auxilary Verb

There are fifteen verbs that irregularly utilize être rather than avoir as their auxilary verb in the past tense:
Aller, arriver, descendre, entrer, monter, mourir, naître, partir, passer, rentrer, rester, retourner, sortir, tomber, and venir. (NOTE: Also include all other verbs formed by or formed from these verbs.)

Here are two ways you can remember them:

1) Dr. & Mrs. Vandertrampp

Descendre
Rentrer

Mourir
Rester
Sortir

Venir
Aller
Naître
Devenir
Entrer
Retourner
Tomber
Revenir
Arriver
Monter
Partir
Passer

2) Sing this like "Yankee Doodle":

Aller venir sortir partir, devenir retourner,
Arriver rester rentrer entrer tomber revenir,
Monter descendre, naître mourir
Monter descendre, naître mourir
