Whispering Pines Accommodations

The Lodges

The Alaimo Lodge is the newer of the two lodges. An L-shaped great room is used for dining and other group activities and has a wood-burning fireplace at one end. The kitchen has large refrigerators, a freezer, oven and stove, sinks and cupboards. It is equipped with pots, pans and other cooking utensils plus dishes, cups and mugs, and a coffee-maker. A barbecue grill is available for outdoor cooking. The lodge sleeps 60 in two large bunk rooms and a pair of smaller rooms. There are separate men's and women's bathrooms with showers.

The Laug Lodge is the original camp lodge. A large rectangular great-room is used for dining and other group activities and has a wood-burning fireplace on one side and a wood stove on the other. The kitchen has large refrigerators, a freezer, oven and stove, sinks and cupboards. It is equipped with pots, pans and other cooking utensils plus dishes, cups and mugs, and a coffee-maker. The lodge sleeps a total of 38, in one large bunk room (see below) and two smaller bunk rooms, all opening off of the great room. There are separate men's and women's bathrooms with showers. The front porch features a swing (and a grand view) and there is a new rear patio area for outdoor barbecues. (The lodge was named for Dr. George Laug, a Buffalo State professor who instituted many of the camps nature conservation policies during the 1950s and planned many of the trails, ponds and other features of the camp.)

Grounds
Whispering Pines Camp includes 617 acres of forests, hills, meadows, streams, and ponds. Several marked trails take hikers to the various natural features of the property. A lean-to, a board walk, and a gazebo are among the man-made features of some of the hikes. The land is shared by deer, many species of birds, and myriad small critters.

Activities
Outdoor activities at the Pines include hiking the camp trails, fishing in stocked ponds, and what ever visitors come prepared for. There is space for volleyball, touch football, sledding, and other recreation. Indoors, visitors can relax by the fireplaces in the lodges and take their time preparing meals in the large kitchens. Grills are also available for outdoor cooking and outdoor campfires are permitted in specified locations.

The Camp Director is generally available for guided hikes.

Note: Pets, firearms, hunting, fireworks, snowmobiles and other off-road vehicles, and alcohol are not permitted at the Pines.
